I'm singing on a West End stage on Sunday 21st March! Please sponsor me to take part in this fundraising challenge - to learn and perform Bizet’s opera Carmen in just one day! (Not, I hasten to add, as Carmen herself... That would be taking madness a little tooooo far...)

 

Your donation will support the work of Streetwise Opera, an award-winning charity that helps people experiencing homelessness to move forward in their lives. They run a national programme of music-based activities, including weekly workshops, theatre trips, and work-placements, and every 1-2 years put on a professional level opera production, where homeless participants get to work and perform alongside some of the best artists in the world. 

 

I went to one of their open mike nights recently, and was extremely moved by the experience. The room was full to bursting and people got up in turns to blast out anything from Le Nozze di Figaro to Robbie Williams  - the energy was brilliant and it was impossible to tell who was or wasn't homeless.  So do please dig into your pockets and see if you can find a few pounds to help.
