Please support our quest to raise at least £5000 for Health Poverty Action, by running the London Marathon!
18/4/11- Yesterday's London Marathon run together in 3:55:29 ... a brilliant day, and we were immensly spurred on by all of the support for the charity, as well as on the side of the road!
... Come April Father and Daughter will be hitting the streets of London, and every £ we make will put an extra spring in our step! 26 miles is a lot of steps though, so all donations will be much appreciated.
Amanda: Working towards my PhD in health economics, my days are spent researching how the NHS makes decisions on getting as much 'health' as they can for their money in the UK. In the poorest of countries though, the money pot for health is so low that just a little extra money can go such a long way and could mean the difference between life and death. This is why I want to raise money for Health Poverty Action.
Colin: Why am I doing this? Well, I never expected to run a marathon with one of my girls .... so this is probably a unique opportunity. And it is 30 years since I last ran the London Marathon (the very first one in 1981). So it seemed like a good idea. But as my last Marathon was in 1985, I am going to need a lot of encouragement just to get to the start line, let alone complete the distance. Hence your early donations to Health Poverty Action are very gratefully received. The more sponsorship we get up front, the more difficult it will be for me & my bones to bottle out at the last minute!! Thanks to everyone in the AB Performance RGB Championship at Silverstone for getting us off to a great start.
31/1/2011- Well, January has seen us through a fabulous surge in donations, zooming us right through to the better side of the 50% point! :). We're also prepping for our Eckington fundraising event in March, news to follow very soon! In terms of training, Colin's is going well, and he's clocking up the miles consistently, to the mild despair of Amanda who is still having troubles with her shin, and will visit her third physio about it tomorrow- Though keeping up the fitness with shorter runs and daily encounters with the cross-trainer / swimming pool. Thanks to all for your much welcomed support!
16/3/11- One month to go now, and we've been mega busy on both the running and fundraising front. Last weekend saw a big fundraising effort hit Eckington village hall, where we managed to raise £1630- an amazing amount, which would have been impossible without all the wonderful help from friends on the food/organisation/muscle/raffle&auction-donation/music/DJ - front! With four weeks to go we're hoping to smash our original target and reach £5000 to support HPA's critical work. Training is progressing and we're up to about 30miles a week. Thank you for all the support!x
27th August: My first fundraising event- 'The Silverstone Run'. Success! Completed in 1hr51mins45secs.. thank you ALL at RGB for the hugely generous donations!
26th Sept-Michelle completed Kenilworth half marathon. Thanks Sarah the Kim for the sponsorship!
24th Oct 2010- Colin and Amanda ran Birmingham's HALF MARATHON in 1hr49mins44secs! Cheered on by a wonderful team of supporters equipped with pom-poms and all, we ran the 13.1 miles in beautiful sunshine, dodging our way through the huge crowd of runners, and crossing the finish line together. A big thank you for all of the physical, verbal and monetary support!!
Jan 2011- Happy New Year to all! I hope this year has got off to a happy and healthy start. Thanks to many many very generous donations in the past couple of weeks we have flown past the £1000 mark, which has sent us whooping our way round the streets of worcestershire /down the slopes of the french alps over new year. Back to work and routine now, but the training continues (my shin splints seem to be subsiding, touch wood!). Fundraising event details to follow...
30/3/11- Just over 2 weeks to go.Our training peaked last week in terms of mileage, ending in a 20-miler at the weekend run together around Bredon Hill (hopefully the cheering crowds will take care of those last 6 :s ). Very close to the £5000 mark raised for HPA now. The money can make a real difference in the places it's being sent to, so thank you for visiting the site to contribute to the cause!
