Story
Dear friends,
On October 17th I will be running in the Amsterdam Marathon in the hope of raising funds for Oxfam's Pakistan Flood Appeal.
The floods are now considered the worst humanitarian crisis in living memory. There has been 1,700 deaths, and more than 21 million people have been considerably affected. These figures equate to more than the Indian Ocean tsunami, the Haiti earthquake and the 2005 Kashmir earthquake put together.
Nearly 5 million people are without shelter and an estimated 8 million require immediate assistance to meet their basic food needs.
Oxfam's work invloves the trucking of water, installation of water tanks, repairing of wells and water pipes, and construction of emergency latrines to help prevent the spread of water-borne diseases. They also provide water purification sachets to people reduced to drinking from dirty ponds, and training and advice on basic sanitation.
£3 is able to provide 13 sachets of rehydration salt to treat dehydration in severely malnourished children, and £10 can provide a family with access to safe drinking water.
If you are able to, your help will be hugely appreciated. Additionally, my work (Deloitte) will double all money donated up to £500.
Thanks very much,
Jamie.
