I am hoping to lose a little weight at the same time as raising some well needed cash for Farleigh Hospice in Broomfield Chelmsford. This hospice specialises in caring for the lives of individuals and their families who have been touched by cancer or other life limiting illnesses. It's about extra-ordinary people taking the time to improve the lives of others; about adding life to days, even when days can't be added to life. They are the sole provider of hospice care in Mid Essex and their huge range of services are offered completely free of charge.

This is an amazing charity who help to look after people who have terminal cancer. These wonderful doctors and nurses provided my own mum with palliative care during her last months of life and provided a warm, comfortable environment for mum to end her days in peace in October 2008. The people who work for Farleighs Hospice are angels.

The Total Operating costs for the year 2006 / 2007 were £2.9 million for all of the services offered.  Of this, Farleighs  received a grant of approx £1.1 million from the NHS.  For the rest, they are entirely dependent upon the goodwill of the local community, which means that they need to raise nearly £5,000 each and every day to continue to run vital services.

 

The first weigh-in was on 4th January with the last weigh-in on 1st March. My target is to lose 10lbs by 1st March .
