We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

The challenge

In August this year, I will be cycling nearly 900miles from Winchester to Monte Carlo for Cancer Research UK, in memory of my mother and in support of the many other people and families that have been affected by cancer.

My motive

5 years ago, my mum lost her battle with breast cancer, at 45 years old, after suffering with the disease for over a year. My mum’s death left an indescribable hole in my family. As a way to deal with our loss, my dad founded a group - called Inspired Living - which raises money for my mother’s charity, Cancer Research UK through a variety of challenges. This year, we will be riding over 1350km to Monte Carlo. This charity helped give my family and many others the ability to turn considerable grief and negativity into something more positive.

Although my family has personally been affected by cancer, I want to ride also for the many other friends and family members that I know have been affected by the disease. I want to raise money for a charity that strives to find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer to save more lives in the future.

The ride

I will be cycling for 9 days across France completing an average distance of 140km/90miles per day, with the final days passing over the Alps! Before May this year, the longest bike ride I had ever been on was 35miles. This trip will be a great personal challenge as I am a novice cyclist, and will require a great deal of training and support to reach the level of physical and mental endurance needed.

More details about the Inspired Living ride can be found on the website: http://www.inspiredliving.org.uk/continental-rides/

Please follow my progress, along with progress of the 49 other cyclists, in our training and on the challenge itself through this website and personal Facebook pages.

My fundraising

Participating in this ride, and raising as much money as possible, is my way to remember my mum and to help to support further research into a terrible disease that affects so many people. It would mean so much to me if you could sponsor me for this challenge.

Thank you for taking the time to read my page and for your donations.
