Fundraising for Phab
Story
On the 31st May 2010, I will be taking part in the Bupa London 10k Race, aiming to finish in under an hour!!!
Why? The motivation for me is simple!
My son Manish is almost 4 and has a condition known as Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Manish's condition means that he has problems and difficulties with social interaction, such as a lack of understanding and awareness of other people's emotions and feelings. He also has impaired language and communication skills, such as delayed language development and an inability to start conversations or take part in them properly.
Although there is no cure for ASD, there are a range of treatments that can assist Manish to ensure that he is able to overcome this as time goes on, organisations such as Phab Kids are invaluable, ensuring that all children are able to come together on equal terms, to intergrate within the wider community and make more of life together.
With the right support, Manish, and other children like him, can overcome this condition and live a normal life like you and I.
The objects and the aims of the Phab organisation have remained the same for 50 years, they are probably more relevant today than at any time in its existence. The Charity's long-held philosophy of bringing together people with and without physical disabilities on equal terms bears remarkable similarity of aim to the new promotion of social inclusion.
Money raised will go to supporting a network of over 200 clubs. Phab clubs provide valuable support for families, and carers helping them overcome feelings of isolation. All members of the same family can belong to the same club and they are able to enjoy events and activities together and with others.
