Story

19th April 2010

Firstly thank you to everyone for helping me to smash through my £500 target.  It's now a push to see how far beyond it we can go.  With just over four weeks of hard training effort until the first run, and then four solid weeks of running until the big finish on 13th June, your support and encouragement (cheek and abuse) is spurring me on immensely. I can't thank you enough - everyone should be extremely proud of themselves for contributing to this hugely important charity.

16th April 2010

My employer Network Rail has confirmed that it will donate the equivalent amount of money we raise here to their corporate charity partner Cancer Research UK.  So every single penny donated will have double the charitable impact.  Epilepsy Scotland, Cancer Research UK and I are so grateful for your support, and I promise to offer my commitment and hardest training effort in return.

So here's the deal...the Polaroid 10k Series is four 10k races over four weeks, and my target is to run the first under one hour and then beat the previous time at each run.  Those runners amongst you may not be impressed, but anyone who knows me knows I'm as close to the anti-runner as it gets, so for me this is going to hurt!  Races happen at Helensburgh (20th May 2010), Clydebank (27th May 2010), Dumbarton (3rd June 2010) and a grand finale at Vale of Leven (13th June 2010).

I'm raising money for Epilepsy Scotland.  Epilepsy is the most common, serious neurological disorder in the world, and in Scotland 1 in 130 people have it.  Epilepsy Scotland campaigns for improved healthcare, better information provision and an end to stigma.  All money raised for Epilepsy Scotland stays and is used in Scotland.

Please dig deep.  Even the tiniest of donations will be so gratefully received...I also have paper sponsor forms if you'd rather not donate online.  I promise to repay every penny in sweat, hopefully not blood, and probably tears.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
