Story

We did it!!!   Eventually race day loomed large and we made our way to London accompanied by our families to register at the Expo and relax before the big day. During registration Anna met Paula Radcliffe who kindly took time out for a photo opportunity, with Anna hoping that some of Paula’s speed and endurance would rub off on her!

Race Day began with an early start and a trip to Greenwich Park where all the runners congregate. This provided an opportunity to meet other runners including the NSPCC team and to carry out final preparations involving sun cream and Vaseline!

The race itself was an amazing experience and the crowds did a fantastic job cheering us on and providing sweet treats along the way.  Sharing the streets with a racing rhino and being overtaken by a rubbish bin all added to the occasion. Fiona found herself running alongside someone she assumed must a popular local judging by the amount of cheers he was getting, only to discover it was Richard Branson.

Moyra didn’t encounter any celebrities on the way but did manage to beat Lorraine Kelly to the finish line by 10mins!

We completed the course with finishing times of Fiona 4 hrs 53 mins; Anna 5 hrs 42 mins and Moyra 6 hrs 4 mins.

Upon returning to work wearing our medals with pride, struggling to negotiate the stairs and comparing toenail injuries when asked if we'd do it all again there was a unanimous “Yes”!

Thanks to the generous support of friends and colleagues we're well on track to raise the £6k target on behalf of the NSPCC.
