Story

Hello All!

Today was a fantastic day in Manchester! We managed to get through the whole 10km in 1hr 41 mins. Thank you all for all your support and fantastic donations- we have managed to go over our target by a mile! You're all legends!

I would like to dedicate my run/walk to my friend Sunny who sadly passed away the morning of the race- she fought cancer for seven years and was taken too young- rest in peace Sunny xxx

Update!

Hello all! On May 16th 2010, Jenni Clegg, Chantelle Lloyd and I will be running/walking the BUPA Great Manchester 10km Run as part of the Banana Army for Leukemia and Lymphoma Research UK.

If you can spare a few quid your donations are going to a fantastic cause! Leukemia accounts for a third of cancers in children and it is with donations that research can continue into developing treatments so more and more people can overcome this terrible disease.

If you have already donated on this site then please do not feel obliged to do so again- your donation is already greatly appreciated!

Thank you for your support!

Anna, Jen and Chantelle

Hello!

On August 29th 2009 I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. AML is a type of blood cancer more common in older people and develops very quickly causing you to become sick within a matter of weeks. I began my chemotherapy regime almost immediately. This intense chemotherapy treatment and high risk of developing infection has meant that I have spent the majority of the last 3 months in hospital. I still have approximately another two months of treatment left.

Chemo has not been fun- I have lost my hair, been tired, nauseous, had rashes, fevers and other lovely things best not described but I have recieved the best treatment I think possible by the fantastic docotrs and nurses on Ward 94 at St James.

Survival rates for AML have increased considerably particularily in the last 20 years and research is ongoing. I have been lucky enough to be invited to participate in the AML-17 trial which looks at effectiveness of new drugs for leukemia. I have chosen Leukemia Research as my charity to support this ongoing research so that more and more effective treatments may be found for this awful disease.

Having AML has changed my outlook on life but I hope that it will just be a blip in the grand scheme of things. I would not be able to have made it through this tough time without the help and support of my family and friends and the doctors and nurses who have taken such good care of me.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story and if you could spare a few quid to help me raise money towards Leukemia Research it would be greatly appreciated.
