The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am raising funds for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association and aiming to raise over £4,000.

It's been a 3 year gap since my last venture as I used to do a challenge every year. So far have cycled through New Zealand, Cuba, Rajasthan Tiger trail in India and Ring of Kerry in Eire, plus ran the New York marathon and so far managed to raise £20,000 for charity, most of which has been for Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Guide Dogs receives no government support but the work they do means so much to those without sight. My mum lost her sight 12 years ago and she has had two different Guide Dogs since then, and they have allowed her to have her independence back again.

It costs a great deal of money to train these dogs and it is only a small percentage of blind people that are fortunate enough to have a guide dog.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

**************

Guide Dogs' mission is to provide guide dogs, mobility and other rehabilitation services that meet the needs of blind and partially-sighted people in the UK today.

The guide dog service depends entirely on public generosity and there are currently around 4600 working guide dog partnerships.

Guide Dogs exists to provide guide dogs, mobility and other rehabilitation services for blind and partially sighted people.  We make a commitment for life to guide dogs and their owners, and this simply would not be possible without the donations of our generous supporters as we receive no government or statutory funding.

Guide Dogs has been providing blind and partially sighed people with the freedom and independence that a guide dog gives for over 75 years and the organisation needs over £50 million per year to continue our work.

Guide Dogs needs your help to provide guide dogs and mobility support to the UK's blind and partially-sighted people.

It costs £10 a day to care for a guide dog - a commitment we make to each dog and owner for life.

Guide Dogs for the Blind recieve no government funding but provide an invaluable service for blind and partially sighted people, by giving them the freedom and independance that a guide dog gives them.

Guide Dogs for the Blind rely totally on voluntary donations. They support 4,700 guide dog partnerships in the UK and the cost of each dog to it's new owner is a nominal 50p to ensure no one is prevented from having one due to lack of money.

It costs £10 a day to support a guide dog and with your help blind and partially sighted people will be able to lead a more independent life which we all take for granted.

A few details of the cost for each dog is as follows:

£60 - Buys a harness, handle, collar & bell

£100 - Provides four long canes

£250 - Feeds a guide dog for a year

£600 - Provides training for one visually impaired person

£1000 - Supports the basic training of a guide dog

£3,650 - Supports a working guide dog partnership for one year

The charity also funds major research into the prevention and cure of eye disease, to prevent blindness in the first place
