Fundraising for Muslim Aid (OLD)
30/09/2010
Hey Guys thank you for visiting my fund raising page.
For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Anum Akhtar and I am participating in the UK Parachuting – Tandem Skydive on the 24th September 2010. This skydive will have a parachute specially designed for two people. The aircraft will lift the ground to around 13,000ft (approx. 2 miles high!) where I will leave the aircraft with my instructor. The charity I am looking to support is Muslim Aid. THE STORY My main aim is to raise as much funds as possible for those affected in Pakistan. The Pakistan floods began in July 2010, after heavy monsoon rains affected many areas of Pakistan. At least 2,000 people have been killed and more than 722,000 homes have been badly damaged or totally destroyed. People of Pakistan are now facing the largest humanitarian crisis, with worsening floods that are affecting even more people than the Tsunami and Haiti earthquake combined. With nearly 10 million children have now been affected, that is more than the population of Greater London. The floods have destroyed crops‚ homes and schools, millions of children with no shelter or food. The stagnating water and sweltering temperatures are also creating perfect conditions for the spread of life-threatening diseases including malaria, acute diarrhoea and cholera. Why Muslim Aid you may ask? Muslim Aid is currently working in over 70 countries across Africa, Asia and Europe, and is striving to help the poor overcome the suffering endured due to natural disasters and lack of life's basic necessities. The Muslim Aid team is working hard on the ground to ensure the basic needs of the flood-affected people in Pakistan are met with speed. Over 9,000 men, women and children have been treated with medical care at Muslim Aid’s medical camps during the month of September. A further 8,450 water bottles and 316,134 aqua tablets were also distributed during this month, with 171 hygiene sessions held in the affected districts. It is hoped that these sessions held for the flood-affected community will help them to understand the importance of hygiene and safety issues, thereby providing them with tools to safeguard their health from waterborne diseases. http://www.muslimaid.org/index.php/what-we-do/current-campaigns/pakistan-flood-appeal Where will this money go and what will it be used for? I would like to emphasise that all proceeds received will go directly to Muslim Aid whom is working hard on the ground to ensure the basic needs of the flood-affected people is met with speed and vigour.
