Story

Hi Everyone!

A few of us are are doing a trek up Mount Snowdon this October for the charity D.E.C to raise funds for the flood victims in Pakistan.

At 1,085m or 3,560ft Mount Snowdon is the highest mountain in Wales. So you can imagine this is going to be quite challenging.

We have compiled some information that you might find interesting and why we feel this should be important for everyone. Thanks for your time

1) What has happened in Pakistan ?

On 26 July 2010 The country of Pakistan endured the worst humanitarian tragedy in their countries history . It is estimated that more than 20 million people have lost their homes and are on the verge of starvation and the brink of infectious diseases.

 2) Why should you as a global citizen care ?

The UK and US are some of the largest trading partners to Pakistan. Meaning many Pakistani consumers buy UK and US based products everything from (arms, tea, and medical supplies ). Exports from Pakistan to the UK and US alone equalled $3.03 billion dollars which include (rice, yarn and textiles) and Pakistan bought $19 billion worth of US goods. This has made Pakistan a valued trading partner.

 3) What has happened to the Children in Pakistan ?

The Children of Pakistan are experiencing homelessness, malnutrition and are without education, and most importantly are being subject to disease ridden water.

4) What are some facts about Pakistan ?

Pakistan is a country in Southeast Asia a former British Commonwealth colony, it is very important to UK, US  and EU security. It is comprised of 125 districts and 7 tribal agencies. The capital is Islamabad. The infrastructure of Pakistan was not great before the floods with most of the people in Pakistan living on less than a dollar a day and working in the textile field.  " The UN has labelled this the worst humanitarian disaster in history"

 5) About the D.E.C

The DEC is made up of 13 aid agencies, who are UK registered humanitarian charities that fulfil certain criteria. The DEC members have the expertise in the delivery and provision of aid. Members' performance and any new applicants are reviewed every two years.

The DEC is always striving to raise the standards of humanitarian aid. They work to ensure that the funds raised by the public are spent in the most effective way to finance humanitarian relief.

With a little sacrifice today you will make a big difference tomorrow for people who have absolutely nothing right now.

Your help is greatly appreciated! Thankyou from
