The other day whilst bench pressing a couple of tons whilst skipping on a running machine in a sauna I decided the time had come to enter a full marathon. When discussing this idea with friends and lookalikes (Andy Murray, Will Smith, Glyn from Big Brother, the drumming boy from Love Actually), it quickly became clear that my thigh guns and calf cannons would simply be too quick for the other contestants. To create a more level playing field a group of us have decided to do the 3 peaks challenge (Ben Nevis, Scarfell Pike and Snowdon in 24 hours), after which I will return to work for 2 days before heading to Nottingham to win the Robin Hood Marathon. Personally I'm dreading going to work.
On a more serious note Alzheimers has had a big impact on our family over the last 10 years and this provides one of the main drivers for my running - especially when I'm struggling. These days most of my time seems to be spent running or in pain from running. Completing the marathon was already one of the biggest challenges of my life before adding in the three peaks challenge. I know it's going to hurt but am determined to finish and if I can raise some money for this worthy cause it will all be worth it in the end.
Thank you,
Ash
