Story
Can you imagine never showering in privacy, with no clean running water ? Having a period with no sanitary wear ? No private place to use the bathroom? No parents to guide you, feed you, takecare of you? These are only some of the challenges that the children in the slums of Nairobi face daily. This year we made the decision to embark on a trip that hopefully will be life changing in many ways.
We are going to Nairobi at the end of March as a family with 12 others to undergo charity work in a school in the slum of Nairobi. We are travelling with the charity ACEF which we have supported for the last 10 years, a number of you will have already supported us on the bike rides and dine for dignity event. The school supports over 70 orphans and over 700 vulnerable children. We will be involved in building showers for the children to provide a safe and dignified place to wash along with innovative engineering projects to improve the eco toilets installed last year (poo power) that provide power to the school for cooking and lighting to replace the coal burning. This is a great opportunity for us to see a different part of this world, for Rhys and Millie to experience and get involved with engineering and health projects.
As we approach Christmas we are asking all our friends and families to consider a donation to support the work we will be doing instead of Christmas cards or gifts. As a family we would like to fund at least 1 of the 6 showers being installed along with sporting equipment that Rhys and Millie will engage with the children with. The estimated cost of this is £700. Any additional raised can be used to support ongoing projects, just £5 will feed a child for a month, £12 will provide a menstrual cup which will last 10 years. Thank you for reading this and considering a donation and we appreciate any help or support you maybe able to provide. Merry Christmas and All the best for 2020 to each and everyone of you.
