News!!!

We did it. We had a great day, the boys were really well behaved and the best part was that Michael was well enough to be with me despite being at the hospital for most of the day before!!!!!! He is truly "my" hero!

We cantered up the last 2+ furlongs of the sacred turf to the finishing line and were encouraged along by the applause and calls from the race crowd. We were one of the last groups to finish on the actual race course and the racing began before we even got back to the trailer.

What an experience, certainly one never to be forgotten!! What a buzz. Have a look at the photos of our day, our son Richard took them for us leaving us with a wonderful record of the event.

Michael has just finished his latest bout of chemo and we are waiting to hear the results from his latest scans. He has been incredibly brave and battled his way through the most awful side effects. He may well have to start a new course of treatment in the very near future however ------ you just can't keep a good man down, and what do you do for a man with such courage, why buy him a new horse of course!!! 

The big news is that he has set his cap at riding with me on the Horses for Heroes ride at Ascot that I have been so busy raising sponsorship for!!! So there will be 2 Scott-Hopkins on the ride on our 2 great big hunters. Cruz is a delightful dark bay 6yr old gelding standing almost 18hh. He has put a smile on Michael's face and a new purpose in his battle with cancer. He is quite determined to be out mounted for the forthcoming hunting season, and I have no reason to doubt his intention.

                                                                           Our Story So Far

I have been an Army wife for all of my adult life. I have seen, heard and experienced amazing courage within the service community and had my heart strings pulled on many occasions by the lives led by our forces personnel after they have been injured and returned home to an uncertain future.

Help for Heroes is a wonderful charity which raises funds to make our injured servicemen and women's future brighter, happier and more fulfilled.

I have been married to my own soldier since 1972. He spent a hideous 14 months in 2007/8 fighting bowel cancer after he left the Army and we thought our lives were back on track. Much to our horror last November we learnt that the cancer is back - big time, and yet another huge fight is in front of us.

He has been so very brave and so I wanted to show just how much I admire his courage by putting myself forward  for this sponsored ride - Horses for Heroes which takes place on July 10th 2010 around Windsor Great Park and finishes on Ascot racecourse. I am a novice rider, so this will be a very big challenge for me and I would very much appreciate your help by sponsoring me for taking part in this event and helping to fill the coffers of this amazing charity.
