Story

Team "Sibling FC" is formed of Brother & Sister pairing, Connor Sharod-Southam & Emma Hornby. In June 2016, we'll be taking part in the Black Forest Gateux route of Monte-Carlo or Bust – a rally which sees 80 vehicles voyage from the UK, to the start-line in Belgium and onward to Monte-Carlo's world-famous Casino Square.

But, there's a catch. We won't be undertaking this epic journey in an average family road-trip vehicle. As a banger rally, teams must compete in vehicles which cost less than £300. In our case, Connor has donated his very-own 2002 Ford KA Style.

The car has been Connor’s gateway to independence since 2012, whilst he also used it for lessons prior to passing his test. It has a special place in his heart, so what better way to bid farewell than to complete a heroic expedition across the continent!

That, however, is just the beginning. Following in the tread marks of our rally predecessors, we’ll be garishly decorating our vehicle & partaking in various fancy dress endeavors – spreading a little British fun with our continental friends along the way.

We’re both supporters of Reading Football Club – especially Connor, who has held a season ticket since the age of five – and with it being a European Championship year, it was an absolute no-brainer to theme our team around the football club.

Right now, the car has a rather flamboyant red paint-job, so we face the unenviable task of transforming the vehicle in-line with the blue & white colours of Reading Football Club – a makeover which you’ll be able to follow step-by-step on Facebook (/SiblingFC) & Twitter (@SiblingFC).

The event organisers set fancy dress themes for each day, with this year’s selection including animals, toga & red/white – so it’s fair to say that we’re going to get some strange looks from the locals!

Whilst other teams will be experiencing the high-life in fancy European hotels, we'll be slumming it in a rather cosy pop-up tent. It will be Connor’s first experiencing of camping, with Emma having just the single trip under her metaphorical belt.

Although the event will be most enjoyable, we’re also taking part to raise funds for two deserving charities. Building for the Future (Charity No.: 1121458) and Reading FC Community Trust (Charity No.: 1125817) will each take a 50% share of the funds we raise from the rally.

Building for the Future is a Wokingham-based charity that provides activities, support & therapy for children with disabilities & additional needs. They are based at ‘Our House’ in Wokingham – their own fully accessible play centre where families can meet and where all children are celebrated.

Reading FC Community Trust work in Reading and the surrounding areas, using football as a tool to engage with children & young people to highlight the advantages of leading a healthy, active, socially inclusive lifestyle.

You can view our Just Giving 'team' page here - http://www.JustGiving.com/teams/SiblingFC - where you can donate to the two charities separately.

In the weeks before the rally, we’ll be showing-off our decorated car at various shopping locations, whilst shakin’ buckets to raise funds in the process. This will be your chance to look in and around the motor before it sets-off on its marathon drive!

With the aim of encouraging donations, we have both foolishly agreed to take part in several self-imposed challenges, and *IF* we reach our target we'll partake in an ULTIMATE public punishment.

Let’s hope the little stallion can make it through France, traverse the forests of Belgium, conquer the Swiss Alps and passage south along the Côte d'Azur for a glorious finish in Monte-Carlo!

Thank you all for your support!
