In the UK Over 1000 newborn babies die or suffer brain damage due to lack of oxygen at birth every year. Our Son Charlie suffered from a lack of oxygen at birth. He received a fairly new treatment called 'Cooling'. Cooling treatment is given to babies who have suffered hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), brain injury due to asphyxia, and are at risk of death or severe long term disability. The baby is cooled from the normal body temperature of 37 degrees Celsius down to a temperature of 33.5 degree Celsius. Cooling is administered for 72 hours followed by gradual re-warming to normal body temperature in intensive care.

Charlie is 3 years old and is developing just like most other toddlers his age.  He’s a very happy, bright, sociable, loving little boy and is showing no signs of any major disabilities. Charlie was cared for in the Royal Gwent’s Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU). The team there are exceptional and the care, love and support they gave Charlie was second to none.

All donations received will contribute towards purchasing items of cooling equipment plus the training needed for this equipment. All funds will go directly to the Neo Natal Intensive Care Baby Unit at The Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport.This will assist the team in saving other babies like our son Charlie through the 'Cooling' process.

To raise the awareness of Cooling and offer support to other families a friend of ours Kelly (whos beautiful daughter Kiya is also developing well after Cooling) and we have set up a Facebook page called ‘Cooling Baby Treatment’.Please help us to spread the word and join our page.
