Barclays is competing in this race to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) and the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC).
The TCT focuses on the needs of teenagers and young adults with cancer, leukaemia, Hodgkin’s and related diseases by providing specialist teenage units in NHS hospitals. Teenage and young adult patients in this age group have particular needs that are different to those of adults and children. They need specialist care because of the rarity of the tumours they get and also for the particular psychological and social problems they experience.
The NSPCC is the UK's leading charity specialising in child protection and the prevention of cruelty to children. The NSPCC's mission statement includes; protecting children from all forms of violence and exploitation, encouraging social responsibility for child care and protection, encouraging children to fulfil their potential, challenging inequalities for children and young people and providing an organisation for every child to turn to.
