We raise funds for The National Hospital to improve the lives of neurology patients

Story

Paul and Lee not only managed to make it round course on May 31st but both managed to run sub 50 minute times. Mo Farah (now European champion) was a mere 20 minutes ahead of us in winning the race (and breaking the British record) but we are sure we had him worried for a while! Lee came out on top in a time of 46'42" with Paul not too far behind in 48'40".

Not a bad performance but we are pleased to say our efforts on the day were well surpassed by the support we received. A great contribution from everyone who made a donation enabled us to raise well over £6,000 for the National Hospital Development Foundation (NHDF) - well above our target. Thank-you!!!

Just over three years ago Lee's wife, Anja, collapsed after suffering a brain haemorrhage. She was immediately transferred to the National Hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery and despite a number of setbacks, gradually progressed from intensive care, into the wards and then rehab, spending 11 weeks in total as an in-patient. The shock and despair that we all felt during this time was tempered by the fact that we had a world leading specialist hospital on our doorstep, not only with state-of-the-art equipment, but with staff who provided fantastic care and counselling.

Anja has made a remarkable recovery from such a serious brain injury and 18 months ago Anja and Lee were blessed with a beautiful baby daughter, Abby. Anja's strength and determination together with the treatment and care provided at the National Hospital enabled the whole family to get through this life changing experience. Running 10km may seem like a stroll in the park compared to all this (and it is!) but Paul and Lee are determined to give something back to the National Hospital and increase awareness of neurological disorders, which affect a high percentage of the population.

Any support and donation to the NHDF (no matter how small) would be gratefully received and allow the National Hospital to continue to provide world class treatment and undertake ground breaking research, both of which are instrumental in providing treatment and support to normal families (like ours) and getting them through difficult times. Thank-you!

The NHDF is a registered charity that raises vital funds for capital projects and research at the National Hospital. To find out more about the NHDF and the National Hospital visit http://www.uclh.nhs.uk/Charities+at+UCLH/National+Hospital+Development+Foundation/

Ten million people in the UK suffer from a neurological disorder, either from birth, through injury or a slowly developing illness. The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London is one of the world's leading centres for the study and treatment of the brain, spinal cord and nervous system and is a national and international referall centre for neurological problems.
