Story

On 18 July I'll be participating in the 2010 Etape du Tour cyclosportive: 9,500 amateurs racing over the course of this year's Tour de France Stage 17 - which the peloton will do in half the time 4 days later - so there should already be a good crowd on the summits when (if) we get there.

The course is 174km long: 29km flat, 49km downhill which leaves 96km uphill over three catergorised climbs including the infamous hors catergory Col du Tourmalet which involves a 20km ascent to a summit at 2115 metres. Joy!

I'm looking to raise funds for a great charity called Cyclists Fighting Cancer.  CFC provides bikes, trikes and equipment to children and young people whose lives have been affected by cancer.  Its primary aim is to help children to reintegrate and rehabilitate after treatments in a fun and exciting way.  The story below says it all:

Sam's Wheels

This month we are appealing for support to purchase a specially adapted trike for a very brave young Cardiff boy who was diagnosed with a brain tumour at just 8 months old.

Sam, now 4 has already undergone surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy and now has problems with hearing, speech, balance and co-ordination. A trike would be most suitable for Sam to assist in his rehabilitation in improving his strength and co-ordination plus enjoying fun exercise to help regain fitness and self esteem.

Four year old Sam has been treated at the Children’s Hospital of Wales in Cardiff and lives in the Pontprennau area. He has been assessed and the appropriate trike and adaptations tested. This particular trike will cost just over £800, therefore we are asking for a contribution to help us secure this trike for Sam so he can begin to be an active little boy as soon as possible.
