Dear Friends
I am riding a 75km mountain bike marathon to raise money for Newcastle Upon Tyne NHS Trust where a team led by Dr Malcolm Coulthard are developing a unique haemodialysis machine that can be used to provide dialysis to newborn and premature babies at weights from 0.7-6kg.
I am doing this to support my friends Sophie and Andrew Bowman whose 12 day old son Adam died last year after suffering acute kidney failure and could not be effectively dialysed by a conventional dialysis machines designed for adults.
The money raised will finance the construction of two new neonatal haemodialysis machine for clinical trials, the last step needed before the machine can be licenced in the UK.
All money you can donate will be gratefully received and used to pay for parts and construction of this important potentially life saving device.
Many thanks,
Benjamin Griffin
