Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving
I am running the Cardiff half marathon for Amelia Matters. My daughter Maddy is in the same class as Amelia at Shirenewton Primary and they are very close and since knowing the family have realised how much Amelia and children like her are in desperate need of these CoaguCheck machines to test their Warfarin levels at home.
CoaguChek XS system, means nothing to you well......
This is a machine that over a 100 children in the South/West Wales area are using today to monitor the level of their blood after taking Warfarin daily. These children have all undergone major open by-pass surgery at least once in their short life. Shocking yes - heartbreaking definitely.
These machines cost £299 each, which is a lot of money for one family to find in today’s economy and having a long term sick child life is hard. These machines are donated to The University Hospital of Wales Cardiff (Children’s Cardiac Unit) by Amelia Matters Charity. Without these machines families would have added stress (with every INR check) to go to their local hospital, in some cases if the INR levels are not in range could mean every other day to weekly. Which you may think well that’s not hard. It is hard for a small child to go back to hospital after spending potentially weeks undergoing surgeries including tubes and wires and constant blood tests.
These children deserve to have the chance of a home life that can be made as peaceful and stress free as possible. Please help me by giving generously so I can give one family the chance of a normal life.
Meanings:-
INR – International normalisation ratio (blood Test)This is done with the international normalisation ratio (INR) blood test.
Too high an INR level means blood clots won't form quickly enough, which increases the risk of bleeding and bruising.
Too low an INR means the dose is too low and blood clots could still develop.
Warfarin – Blood thinner used to treat heart disease - Warfarin is the most commonly prescribed anticoagulant. It is taken as a tablet and works by slowing production of vitamin K and in turn, the protein prothrombin, which is important for blood clotting.
So please dig deep and donate now.
thank you x
