Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit Birket Foster's JustGiving page.

It is with considerable sadness that Birket Foster's family have announced his death on Saturday, 24 October 2020 at the age of 88 years. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Enid, their daughters, Gillian and Jane, and other family members.

Birket was well known and highly regarded throughout the Borough. During a long teaching career, he taught at Priory Primary School, Ralph Gardner High School and Collingwood School, where he was Deputy Head Master for many years. He had a passion for football and was heavily involved in coaching school football teams. Reflecting his love of the North East, and especially its local history, Birket was for over 50 years the Secretary and latterly President of Tynemouth Antiquarian & Historical Society. For many years, he and Enid were active members of the Phoenix walking club and also St. Columba's Church in North Shields, where he was a Church Elder.

Rather than floral tributes, the family are keen that anyone wishing to make a donation can do so through this page to Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade, an organisation which was dear to his heart.

RIP Birket, one of life’s true Gentlemen.
