Robert “Nizzie” Smith

Robert, "Bobby, Nizzie, son, brother, dad, husband” Smith was born on 21st December 1953 in Edinburgh.

Bobby grew up in Dalkeith and attended Dalkeith High School where he made many many friends and during this time it became apparent he had a fantastic talent for football.

During his school days, Bobby played for Musselburgh Windsor before signing on at Hibernian Football Club where he played around 152 games before winning a big money move to Leicester.

In 1978 Bobby moved to Leicester where he again enjoyed an illustrious career and met many great people a lot of whom he remained good friends with. In 1986 Bobby returned to Hibs where he played for a further season before finishing his career at Berwick Rangers.

During his life, Bobby met the wonderful Dot, who he was lucky enough to marry and the couple had 2 children, Murray aged 25 and Christopher aged 20.

Sadly on the 22nd February 2010, Bobby passed away after being diagnosed with Cancer.

On the 29th July 2011, 12 of Bobby’s close family and friends are taking part in a charity cycle from Easter Road (Hibernian Stadium) to the Walkers Stadium (Leicester City Stadium). The challenge is a combined total of 300+ miles which will run over a 3 day period.

During the cycle we hope to not only raise a kind donation for Cancer Research but also to raise awareness of Cancer and attempt to provide encouragement and support for victims of Cancer and their families.

Prior to the cycle there will be a fundraising evening, which will be held on Thursday 7th April 2011 at the Lane Club in Edinburgh.

Throughout the evening there will be 3 live bands, an auction followed by 6 DJ’s. It is hoped that the evening will again raise awareness whilst also allowing everyone to have a great time.
Tickets are priced at £6 each.

The confirmed Team Leicester are as follows:

A 300+ mile cycle for the group will be a massive challenge and we will need a lot of support, HOWEVER we will work together and we will do it.

There is only under A WEEK now  o go before we start this massive cycle, all the team have been working and training hard, if you can please leave a donation, it really does go to a great cause.
