The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.

Story

Border City wheelers Junior Section completed the Coast 2 Coast cycle ride on the 3rd June 2010, we set off from Whitehaven Harbour on the 1st June, staying at Greystoke & Allenheads along the way before arriving at Tynemouth on the 3rd June 2010.

33 Border City Wheelers completed the challenging 140 mile ride & 15 of the riders were under 14 the youngest being 7 years old.

We are fund raising for Guide Dogs for the Blind as one of the Junior members mum’s Guide Dog recently passed away meaning she has lost her independence, she used to walk 5 miles a day with the dog. She currently rides with the Border City Wheelers on the youth club rides every Sunday on a tandem which her husband pilots.

When we became aware of the costs involved in training a dog to become a Guide Dog we decided that the funds raised should go to Guide Dogs for the Blind.

The Junior member are hoping to raise £5,000 so they can then name a puppy.
