We provide specialist palliative care to people with life-limiting illnesses

Story

Our fundraising group would like to ask for your support in our endeavours to raise money as part of the ‘Buy-a-Brick’ scheme for the rebuild of the hospice buildings at Somerton House on the Antrim Road.

Somerton House has been in operation for over 25 years and the hospice is now in urgent need of redevelopment.

Specialist palliative care has also changed considerably over the years, with new clinical practices and standards.  In order for the Hospice to continue providing the best possible care to patients and their families, it is now needed to update and upgrade the facilities at Somerton House.

Plans for the new Hospice at Somerton will include:

Improved patient rooms: All patient rooms will be en-suite with showers, have access to garden areas, and will be equipped with the latest moving and handling equipment to allow the movement of patients safely and easily.

Better facilities for families: Every single patient room will have the space and facilities for extra beds, allowing a loved one to stay at the most difficult of times.  The number of family rooms will also be increased and a new coffee room for patients and their visiting family and friends will be built.

New research and education wing: A new research and education wing will be created as part of the rebuild which will house the Centre for Excellence in Palliative Care Education.

Upgraded facilities: All of the facilities will be getting an upgrade, including the catering, laundry, staff welfare and administration facilities.

This is a massive undertaking and we hope to hold a series of events over the coming months that will culminate in running the Boston Marathon in April 2014 to help the Hospice reach its target for fundraising and thus make the new Hospice building a reality.

Thanks for your support.
