In memory of our beautiful sons

After a long night, the worst night of our life, Daniel and Harry Knowles were born just after 7.30am on Wednesday 24^th February 2010 – 19 weeks prematurely. They were two perfect little boys, who we are so proud of and hold in our hearts every day. Unfortunately they were born just too soon and did not survive.

 

Our world fell apart and the next days passed in a blur of doctors, tests and midwives. Once we got home from hospital a few days later, reality hit home. Our babies, our family who we longed so much for, were gone and our lives changed forever. Why? Why has this happened to Daniel and Harry?  Why has it happened to us?

 

The hospital unfortunately could not offer us any practical help or emotional support, as their counsellor was off on long term sick. Our community midwife was able to put us in touch with help by contacting SANDS Lothian. Jeni from SANDS Lothian contacted us immediately and started to support us through this very difficult time and continues to do so.

Without Jeni’s help over the last few months we would not have coped. SANDS Lothian has been wonderful and because of their help we are dealing day-by-day with the loss of our beautiful boys. In gratitude, we would like to give something back to SANDS Lothian so that other people can benefit from their help at the most desparate time, should they ever find themselves in the tragic situation that we found ourselves in.  The organisation is a charity (Registered Scottish Charity No: SCO24375) relying completely on donations from the public.  SANDS offer support, understanding & help to parents bereaved through miscarriage, early birth and neo-natal loss.  Thankfully the majority of people never require their help, but as such, their work perhaps is not as well known as other charities.
