We fund care to help people through a terminal illness

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

There are two teams of ladies from Bupa International taking part in the Martlets Midnight Walk on Friday 18th June 2010.  The walk starts and ends up at Brighton Race Course and will take us through Brighton during the early hours of Saturday morning and will cover around 13 miles.  Our team names are Bupa Troopers and Bupa Feat.

Our target is £1,000 and we hope that with the support and kind donations from our wonderful colleagues, friends and family we will raise this amount for the Martlets Hospice in Hove.

We have already raised a £220 from a cake sale we held at Bupa International on Friday 7th May - thank you to our wonderful colleagues for being brave enough to eat what we made!  In addition we have recently raised a further £100 from a quiz, so thanks again to all those who took part and well done to those that won.

This week there is dress down day at Bupa International on Thursday 17th June, and we hope that this will help us raise even more money for the Martlets.

We have all been training hard over the past few weeks, and have a number of miles under our belts and are now looking forward to taking part on Friday - fingers crossed it will be a dry night.

LATEST UPDATE  - thanks to all the wonderful friends, colleagues and family that have donated on-line and to those who took part in the dress down day yesterday, which raised a further £237, we have reached and exceeded our target of £1,000.  This is great news and I am sure will help spur us on when we are walking through Brighton and Hove in the early hours of tomorrow morning.

The Martlets Hospice provide end of life care services to adults with life limiting illnesses, including cancer. Their facilities include an 18 bed In-patient Unit, Day Hospice and Martlets at Home Service.  They also provide practical and emotional support to the families and carers of patients including helping them through bereavement. Their main aim is to maximise the quality of life for patients and they strive to support patient choice, dignity and independence in all they do. They are a registered charity and all their services are provided free of charge. It costs over £4 million every year to run the Hospice and local community support is essential to their survival.

To put this in perspective, the money we raise will also go towards the following:-

* £96 would pay for 3 sessions with a physio which could help a patient walk again

* £124 will pay for day's care in the Day Hospice where patients receive specialist medical support, but are able to live at home

* £330 covers the cost of 10 bereavement sessions for families who have lost a loved one at the Hospice

* £700 would pay for 5 days care from the Martlets@Home team for a patient who has chosen to die at home - this team also support the patient's family.
