Caroline's Long Walk Home for Christmas

longwalkhome · 1 December 2017
A group of us are walking 50 miles from The Cenotaph to Petworth starting at 10 o'clock in the evening on Friday 1st December 2017 and finishing at dusk on Saturday 2nd December, through the night and into the following day, however long it takes.
The money we raise will go to Walking With The Wounded's programmes to help ‘at risk’ ex servicemen and women who are homeless, in police custody or suffering with mental health issues, and support them to regain their independence. They have worked for us in far more dangerous and uncomfortable situations and this is our way of remembering that and helping them in return. Between us, our group is planning to raise at least £25,000. By donating you will directly support Walking With The Wounded’s programmes:
Employment is a key factor in regaining independence and providing long-term security for veterans and their families. The charity’s employment advisors find veterans who are homeless, in police custody or suffering with mental health issues and support them into sustainable employment.
The charity funds crucial mental health support which can save jobs, relationships and lives. They work with the NHS to cut waiting times by providing one-to-one private therapy for those with anxiety, depression or PTSD within an average of 4 days.
Ex servicemen are the largest occupational group of the adult male prison population. The charity works to keep veterans out of custody by identifying veterans in police custody and support them to reintegrate into society and stay out of jail. The charity's re-offending rate is 7% against a national average of 17%.
Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page. If you feel inclined to support us and this valuable cause, any donation however small is very welcome as it’s the thought that my friends are metaphorically with me that will encourage me to complete the walk.
