Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

For those that do not already know me, My name is Carl Hallam, I am 23 I have a beautiful wife and two fantastic boys Jayden and Elliott.

I have always enjoyed long distance running and used to spend a lot of time raising money for charities I believed in; but as we all know now a day’s time goes so quick and our lives become so busy without time to spare.

It is now I am spurred on to once again, one start long distance running doing my first marathon and to raise money for a charity I believe in!!!

The charity I have chosen to run for is MNDA – AKA The Motor Neuron Disease Association. Motor neuron disease is an illness that has the majority of its awareness from famous professor Stephen Hawkins, who contracted motor neuron disease many years ago. it shows that if you have enough money you can fight against the illness for longer – which is no less painful from what the disease inflicts upon the person, affecting the motor neurons that cells that control voluntary muscle activity including speaking, walking, breathing, swallowing and general movement of the body. Motor neuron disease is generally progressive in nature, and cause progressive disability and death. But still we are no closer to a cure and this advantage is not available to the majority of people affected by it.

In 2004 my wife lost her dad to motor neuron disease at the age of 15 – for me I cannot even try and comprehend the impact that this has had on them but I feel compelled to raise as much awareness and funds for the Motor Neuron Disease Association.

I feel in this day and age, medical science is lagging behind in a lot of areas and I am going to join the 1000’s of people who raise money and support MNDA.

I understand that a marathon is something that should not be taken lightly, especially after a recent death of a marathon runner in the Virgin London Marathon; But I want to demonstrate how serious I am about raising money for my charity.

If you have got this far down my summary (I know a summary is supposed to be short) Thank you so much for taking time to read it and thank you for sponsoring me.
