Story

Two for the price of one - Mont Ventoux and Alpe d'Huez

I have always had a desire to tackle any of the famous climbs of the Tour de France. My inspiration to finally attempt two of these climbs was seeing the courage of Adam Rogers (aged 13), a son of a good friend of mine, whom unfortunately died from a brain tumour.

In his memory the Adam Rogers Trust (ART) was set up to help create a structure around acutely ill children, from first diagnosis; physiotherapy, speech therapy and palliative care to help keep the child's pain at bay. They also help to manage and co-ordinate the care needed, for each child, at home even up to death.

Therefore on the week of June 7th, We will be attempting to climb one of the most infamous and notorious climbs in France. It is a classic climb that has been used on several occasions in the Tour de France.

                                                                                        Mont Ventoux.

We will use one of the Tour de France's classic routes, which is 132km long, and attack Mont Ventoux from the south from Bedoin. This is the hardest way up and is a category one climb.

From Bédoin, the climb gains 1610 m (over a mile in height) over 22k for an average grade of 7.6%, but the last 16k average 9.1% giving it a well earned reputation as one of the hardest climbs in Europe. (See attached profile of the climb).

                                                                                    Two for One Bargain

I want to raise as much money as possible so for you sponsoring me to conquer Mont Ventoux,  I will climb Alpe d'Huez for free.

Alpe d'Huez, is one of the greatest climbs of the Alps, and an absolute classic of the Tour, with 21 hairpin bends climbing 1,120 m. (3,674 feet), with a maximum gradient of 12%.

The Trust was set up in memory of Adam Rogers, who died of cancer, aged 13, in 2006. It aims to help children with cancer to have improved conditions of life, and also adults with learning difficulties (a cause close to Adam's heart as his brother has Down's Syndrome). It provides grants, funding and support to charities and organisations to achieve these aims.
