We fund research into blood-related cancers to improve the lives of children and adults

Story

"1 in 3 are affected by cancer" is a phrase I'd often heard before but never really believed. But in the past year, my Mam, Grandad and Uncle were all diagnosed with various forms.

Thankfully both my Mam and Grandad have had successful operations. However, my Uncle was not so fortunate. He battled cancer bravely before sadly passing away a few months ago.

That is why this weekend I am taking part in the Great North Run. This is the longest distance I have ever ran, and well, I am not too sure I am ready for it. Injury to my dad has caused me to step in at the last minute. I am raising money for an organisation in the North East that supports research into cancer, as well as providing support for those suffering. Any donation you can make will really help North East Promenaders Against Cancer (NEPEC) and help me cross the finishing line!!

About the charity

This voluntary charity set up in 1989 gives out around £60,000 each year. Most of this money is given to support blood-related cancer research in the Newcastle University Medical School and the RVI, Newcastle upon Tyne. The rest of the money is given to local hospices and cancer support groups.
