Story

Just 6 weeks to go until the marathon and training is going well but I'm still keen to raise more money for my brilliant charity. I'm their only runner so please be generous!

During a crazy moment in 2009 I decided that I needed a new challenge and agreed to do something I vowed I would never do again, The London Marathon! I will be running with my oldest friend, Emma and every step of the route will be a challenge for us. Neither of us are expert runners and crossing the line, however slowly will be a big achievement.

I am running for a charity which, as most of you will be aware, means a great deal to me personally and I know that every step I run along the route and every pound that I raise will be going towards a cause that I really believe in. The charity is called  The Post Adoption Centre (PAC). Over the last year I have had the opportunity to learn about the issues facing children who are put forward for adoption and the long term effects their often difficult start in life can have on their future. There is more information on PAC below but its a great charity supporting anyone touched by adoption and I will be their sole runner so I hope you will be able to give generously.

More about my chosen charity: The Post Adoption Centre:

Post-Adoption Centre (PAC) provides advice, support and information to anyone affected by the challenges and opportunities of adoption, including adoptive parents. PAC operates a daily Advice Line where anyone with problems arising from adoption can speak to qualified and experienced counsellors and also provides face to face counselling, family therapeutic work, support around contact and mediation between adoptive and birth families, workshops, groups and seminars for all parties to adoption and professional consultation and training.

Currently in the the average age of a child placed for adoption is four years. Prior to adoption, these children will almost certainly have experienced early trauma within their birth families, suffering neglect, abuse and rejection. They will also probably have lived with a number of temporary carers. These experiences leave a child with significant emotional damage.  PAC supplies specialist advice and counselling to adoptive families struggling with these difficulties.

PAC’s Advice Line number is 020 7284 5879, and is open between 10.00am and 1.00pm from Monday to Friday, plus 5.30pm – 7.30pm on Thursdays. Email enquiries can be made to advice@postadoptioncentre.org.uk. PAC’s website is www.postadoptioncentre.org.uk .
