UPDATE - Unfortunately Scott has had to withdraw due to a broken right leg but will continue to support Charlie all the way to the 26.2 miles - GO CHARLIE
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Charlie Fowkes and Scott Sarson are running the Brighton Marathon on Sunday 15th April 2011 in support of the Huntington's Disease Association. Scott will be running his fifth marathon whilst Charlie is taking the brave, yet very rewarding step of attempting her first marathon after only taking up running towards the end of last year.
Scott Say's - "To run a marathon and raise money for the Huntington's Disease Association was an easy decision to make. The family of a close friend of ours is affected by this disease which is a disorder passed down through families in which nerve cells in certain parts of the brain waste away, or degenerate slowly impairing a person's ability to walk, think, talk and reason. If one of your parents has Huntington's disease, you have a 50% chance of getting the gene for the disease which obviously causes much anxiety and stress. There is no cure for Huntington's disease, and there is no known way to stop the disease from getting worse. The goal of treatment is to slow down the symptoms and help the person function for as long and as comfortably possible. The role therefore of the Huntington's Disease Association is crucial in not only supporting the patient but also the wider families and support groups involved with this condition"
Charlie says... 'Thank you for visiting our Justgiving page'... Having started running in July 11' and pushing myself to complete a half Marathon in October 11' my ultimate goal was to put myself through this immense roller coaster ride and gruelling training schedule (provided by the brilliant Scott Sarson!) to attempt, sorry, complete a Marathon!!! Yes, 26.2 miles (and remember the 0.20 mile counts, especially at the end!!!) Eeeeeeeeeeekkkkkk
To get me round the course and through the pain barrier which i will inevitably hit, I need all the help, support and incentives i can get and to make it all worth while i am joining forces with Scott to raise money for Huntingtons Disease. So, Please dig deep and help make my journey worth while and in return I promise to complete the Marathon with a smile on my face!
Thank you, Charlie x
