VSO is an international development charity that works through volunteers who work in partnership with communities to achieve positive change together. VSO does not send money to achieve this, but instead sends people to share skills and knowledge.

In September I will be going to China for a year to work with the Shenzhen Zhengweining Charity Foundation to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the foundation, increase and develop volunteers to work with disabled people in the community and support the foundation in raising funds.

Ten per cent of the world's poor continue to live in China and as China industrialises, poverty is apparent in urban as well as rural areas and 120m  people, including the disabled, live below the poverty line.
