Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In September 2011 I will be climbing Mt Kilimanjaro for the Cardiomyopathy Association.
In November 2009 my little brother Alex Houghton was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy. Cardiomyopathy is a disease of the heart muscle and in Alex's case enlargement of the heart and it is sadly terminal.
Alex was also born with learning disabilities and Autism. Alex is the most special person you can ever meet. He is a big beam of happiness and everyone who meets him feels touched. Everytime a family member has a birthday everybody has to get together for Alex to blow out the candles. He really is the center of the family, we love him to bits.
The CMA is a UK charity that provides information and support to families affected by cardiomyopathy, a disease of the heart muscle. The CMA often recieves less attention than other major charities, as the condition is not very well known. However in reality, cardiomyopathy is thought to affect 1 in 500 people.
The first challenge is the National Three Peaks. A gruelling challenge were we will have to climb the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales all within the timeline of 24 hours!! I will be doing this with my friends to help raise funds for the trek. This wlll be the first of money fundraisers
