Story

Can One Person Save The Orangutan?

Probably not by themselves.

I understand why anyone would think that, I did too.

But, one person giving up, followed by another and another, and who knows what’s going to happen.

Sorry for that gloomy intro 😊

Because, firstly, I’m ridiculously excited to finally be travelling to Borneo in 2020 (all self-funded)

While I’m there, I’m staying at the orangutan sanctuary < so excitiiiinnngg

As we all know, in Borneo the forests are being destroyed at
an alarming rate, along with the orangutan habitat, which simply means the species is in serious danger.

I’ve looked at this long and hard, and pondered, whether one person alone can make a difference…

… and decided, yes, I can, absolutely.

So I’m off to help volunteer in what is - vital reforestation - to help rehabilitate the orangutans.

 Here’s the sad facts

Animals are suffering and dying because of the systematic destruction of the rainforest, primarily for palm oil production and illegal activities, in the Indonesian part of the island of Borneo. International Animal Rescue (IAR) is working in West Kalimantan to rescue and care for baby orangutans that have been taken from their mothers to be illegally sold as pets and adults that have been chained up or imprisoned in tiny cages. They also have a team that comes in the aid of orangutans left stranded when their forest home is destroyed and translocate these venereal animals to safe areas of protected forest.

 Here's what I’m doing

November 2019 I completed The Winter Wolf Run - the toughest of all Wolf Runs – to help raise awareness for the orangutans by raising money for IAR (Orangutan Rescue) which helps finance, rescue and rehabilitate orangutans, so they get a second chance to live safely in their natural environment.

This year I will be taking part in Cakes For Apes, which is a global baking event in support of International Animal Rescue to raise money for Critically Endangered OrangutansAll funds raised will go to support the International Animal Rescue charity so they can continue their vital and life-saving work rescuing Orangutans in Borneo.

Here’s something else that’s not a lot to ask.

I want you to click donate and give as much as you can, so I can make a one person difference.

If
you won’t do it for me…

do it for the orangutans
😊

 And I promise.

I’ll take every one of you with me – to meet the orangutans - in
my heart and my soul.
