Update on 10 Sep 10 - I'd like to say a big thank you to Kinga for organising money collection boxes at her work - I know she was disappointed not to run with us, but she raised £243.79 and I will make it up to £300. Also to Anna Lee for her support in rallying around her friends and colleagues and Julia who continues to fundraise for Hammerout when she runs two more half marathons. Her page is: http://www.justgiving.com/JuSmith13. What great friends. Thank you all very much for your extremely kind sponsorship - it will go to a good cause, i promise you.
Until the next time!
Update on 29 Aug 10 - we did it - see the photos to prove it.
Dear Friends,
It is time for me to re-focus, raise some more money and
get myself back in shape after a year of chemotherapy.
Encouraged by my close friends Julia and Anna-Lee, i'm
doing another charity run/walk, don't worry i'll have them either side of me to
drag me around. I have decided to do a half marathon in aid of the
charity that has given Phil, Ellen and I a huge amount of support and advice over
the past 12 months. Hammer Out (Brain Tumours) aims are to raise
awareness, help support patients and their carers
and they also contribute towards research. So little is known about why
brain tumours occur, but startlingly, one third of child cancer deaths are
caused by brain and other central nervous system tumours – more than any other
kind of cancer – that’s enough of a reason for me to raise money.
Doing half marathon so close to the end of chemo is
probably a ridiculous thing to do but my intention is not to claim a PB, in
fact I’d be lucky to get around in double the time. I have decided to do it with my old running
club in Pewsey, so i’m relying on lots of friendly familiar faces to encourage
me around.
So thank you for taking the time to visit my Just Giving
page – I do hope you are able to support me in my quest, no matter how small
your donation is - donating through Just Giving is simple, fast and totally
secure. Your details are safe with Just
Giving and they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money
directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible
donation by a
taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way
to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity
- they do charge a small commission for each donation, but I promise to
contribute that amount.
Thank you.
Claire
