Story

Hello,

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In June, I’m getting on my bike to complete my hardest challenge to date - to cycle over 400km from London to Paris in support of The Stroke Association.

Every year an estimated 150,000 people in the UK have a stroke. Of all people who suffer from a stroke, about a third are likely to die within the first 10 days, about a third are likely to make a recovery within one month and about a third are likely to be left disabled and needing rehabilitation.

Stroke has a greater disability impact than any other medical condition. A quarter of a million people are living with long-term disability as a result of stroke in the UK.

The Stroke Association funds research into prevention, treatment and better methods of rehabilitation, and helps stroke patients and their families directly through its Life After Stroke Services. These include Information, Advice and Support, Communication Support and Life After Stroke grants.  You can read more about The Stoke Association here: www.stroke.org.uk

In total the challenge will take four days to complete; the team will be leaving London and heading towards Tonbridge, then on through the Kent countryside to Dover where we’ll catch the ferry to Calais. From there, we’ll bike south to Arras, then on to Compiegne. The final leg of the journey takes us south west and on to Paris where our challenge will be complete when we reach the Eiffel Tower

The reason I am taking part in this challenge is that both myself and members of my family have been effected by stokes in some way. As a result I want to help support The Stoke Association by raising money to help the Stoke Association continue to prevent stokes and help stroke survivors across the UK.   I also want to set myself a new challenge for 2011 and believe that cycling from London to Paris will be both, challenging and rewarding. I’m completing this challenge with two close friends, Katy and Mari. We’re all cycling for different charities but if you’d like to sponsor them also then let me know.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Please help this worthy cause…a £1 goes a long way!

Many thanks as always.
