Story
On the 26th to 28th of June the Half Rice, Half Chips Bicycle Club (a group of middle-aged men who had a drunken conversation in a pub one night) will be attempting to complete the Coast to Coast (C2C) Cycle Challenge. We will be doing this in memory of Matthew Heywood and to raise funds for the Jigsaw Children’s Hospice at Carlisle.
Matthew was a remarkable boy who was born with severe disabilities that meant he relied on his family and friends. Jigsaw Children’s Hospice provided help and support to Matthew and his family and friends when they needed it most. So while it is true we are attempting to complete the C2C challenge as a result of a drunken conversation in a pub one night we are also doing it in celebration of Matthew's life and to raise money to support the Jigsaw Children’s Hospice to say a small thank you for the valuable work they do.
Our aim is to raise much needed funds for the Jigsaw Children’s Hospice which supports children with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses and their families throughout the whole of Cumbria.
The hospice receives only a small amount of the money it needs to run from the Government and has to rely on fundraising. It does a fantastic job working on its promise to “make every day count not count every day” as experienced by one of our team members and their family.
The founding members of the Half Rice, Half Chips Bicycle Club taking part in the C2C Challenge are Stephen Heywood, Bob Allison, Gary Norman, Gary Tomlinson, Tony Hughes, Paul Messenger and Dave Messenger
