The Charity

We are undertaking this challenge on behalf of "Sports Aid"

SportsAid is a charity dedicated to supporting the next generation of young British sportsmen and women to succeed. SportsAid focuses on giving grants to youngsters aged 12 to 18 from 50 able-bodied and 25 disability sports. These athletes compete in national squads and these grants, generally worth £500, help with costs such as travel, training, accommodation, competition fees and equipment. Since 1976 SportsAid has distributed around £20 million and now gives 1,500 grants per year.

Within the Arup Newcastle Office, we sponsor 1 athlete in particular, Bethanie Gardener. Bethanie is a member of the England U17 women's football team and has risen through ranks of the Newcastle Centre of Excellence, becoming the U17 captain last season.  As well as her footballing talent, Bethanie is also a keen athlete and has represented Tyne and Wear schools for 100m sprint and long jump.

Through your donations, we can help to nurture and develop the skills of talented sportsmen and women such as Bethanie throughout the UK.

The Challenge

8 members of the Arup Newcastle Office have accepted the 24 hour, 3 peaks challenge and will attempt to complete their quest on the ?????? 2010.

The 3 peaks challenge involves climbing the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales in a 24 hour period, including journey time between peaks. Time begins at the base of Ben Nevis (Scotland) and finishes at the foot of Snowdon (Wales) with an intermeidate climb up Scafell Pike (England) in between. Our aim is to complete these 3 peaks in 24 hours starting at 2pm local time on Friday 2nd October.

We will post pictures and a blog of events following completion of the event on this page for your perusal!

Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity in donating to our chosen charity.

Best Regards

Col, Andy, Lee, JJ, Ali, Angus, Trish and Nick
