Hello,
Cycle Cairngorms Sportive is a 2-day charity cycle around the beautiful . The aim of the event is to raise funds to help people with disabilities enjoy an outdoor holiday in the . It is organised by the Speyside Trust, a small, independent registered Scottish Charity, based at Badaguish Outdoor Centre.
The challenge of completing a two day Cycling event is something that I’ve wanted to do for a long time. This event allows me to both achieve that goal and raise some money for a worthwhile charity. The event is a total of 170 miles with the first day covering the short distance of 50 miles, a mere warm up for the second day which covers the remaining 120 miles. The route covers long climbs over 2 of Scotland's ski centres - the Lecht at 2090 feet and Glenshee which sits at a rather steep 2132 feet. I can feel my legs burning just thinking about it!
As well as the personal challenge this is providing me I am happy that the money raised is going to help a worth while charity. The Charity provides a very special service to people with disabilities. This includes fully staffed programmes and purpose built holiday unit which people with disabilities can visit unaccompanied. The visitors love the challenge of the outdoors whilst the families receive 24 hours respite. The trust badly needs funds to further develop its respite care activity holidays and its training programmes.
