 As some of you are aware, I have entered the 2011 London Marathon, running, on April 17th, the small matter of 26.2 miles (please see  http://www.virginlondonmarathon.com/interactive-map/  ) for map of the course). Training has commenced in earnest, along with the inevitable aches, pains and blisters which will come from 3 months of training. 

I last ran the London Marathon in 2009 (and 2006 before that), and the experience was made all the more worthwhile given that I ran both times for a local charity - White Lodge Centre (http://www.whitelodgecentre.co.uk/) - which I have a great deal of respect for. Accordingly, I am delighted to once again be able to run for them in this years race.

White Lodge is located just down the road from one of GHG's hospitals (Runnymede) in Chertsey, and I have been fortunate enough over the past 5 yrs to have got to meet many of the centres volunteers, children and adults. White Lodge is focused on developing the potential of disabled children and adults through a wide range of experiences and services, including therapy services, nursery care, out of school activities, and life skills to name but a few. I have seen first hand how facilities such as the hydrotherapy pool and sensory development room benefit those at the centre and the level of dedication of staff (many of whom are volunteers) is incredibly humbling and a lesson to us all.  

My past two marathons have allowed me to raise some £7.5k for White Lodge in total, and with costs of app £1k per day to run the Centre and its ongoing programme of new building, every penny counts.
