We help people with a learning disability to live their lives as they choose.

Story

You have the ability to make a significant improvement to someone else's life. Fundraising enables Mencap to support people with a learning disability to aim high and achieve the things that most of us take for granted. With your help we can really make a difference.

This is going to hurt, me that is. I need all the help I can get, haha, seriously! I really am going to cycle Peru and at an altitude of over 14,000 feet (4,300 metres)!

Anything you can donate would be hugely appreciated, whether its mental support, a good recipe for post-training hunger or actual real cash, woah!

All of the money raised goes directly to Mencap so please help me to help them. My good friend Kevin Shirley got me onto this and it seemed like a nice idea, help out a great charity, see a great country. Then I googled Peru... Have you seen those hills? Yea, now I have too...

So, for those of you who have previously sponsored me, thank you so much, it really does mean a lot to me. Please pass on this link to anyone you know and help me raise vital funds for Mencap - On top of doing all the hard work (!) ill be giving a prize for the largest donation!

The ride will be from 18 to 28 October 2007, we will go from the Inca heartland in Cuzco to the highest navigable lake in the world, Lake Titicaca. Along the way we will encounter snowcapped mountains, yellow grasslands, colonial villages and an abundance of wildlife including llamas and alpacas...
This is a very important target, so please help in any way you can - all donations are very welcome and as I said earlier, go directly to Mencap.

For those of you who are extra generous, ill also be cycling across Israel a month earlier to raise money for a new Breast Cancer Center! With 362miles (937km) over only 3-days, this is really going to push my limits. I really encourage you to visit the Israel site and find out more by clicking this link.

Thanks to everyone in advance, all the best, Marcus.

What your support can achieve:
£25 could help us to make the first visit to a family who have a newly-born child with a learning disability and desperately need advice and support.
£50 could pay for two young people with a learning disability to take part in our Gateway Award programme for a year (this is similar to the Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme).
£140 would enable us to respond to ten calls on our freephone learning disability helpline this provides vital information and support to people with a learning disability and their families.
£250 could pay for 16 children who cannot speak to attend a special workshop where they can learn the Makaton sign language.
£570 could pay for the 16-week course we run for volunteers to train them to provide advice and support to families who have children with a learning disability.

A learning disability affects the way someone learns, communicates or does some everyday things. That learning disability can continue all through their life.

Your donation to Mencap will make a real and lasting difference.
