Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

In August 2014 Darren was told that he had mouth cancer. Following, what we are often reminded was 'life saving' surgery, he was given the all clear and thankfully required no further treatment, just routine monitoring through regular appointments.

From the time we were given the news and heard that word 'cancer' we were given access to a group of specialist nurses who had received training from Macmillan.  They were there for us if ever we needed them, even if it was for what seemed like the smallest question.  It was reassuring to know that we had this support from specially trained individuals who we could get in touch with at any time during the period from diagnosis to operation, and during recovery.

Training obviously costs money and Macmillan need support to continue the good work they do - an essential lifeline for people at such a life changing time!

For those of you that know me, this hike will be a challenge but it's one I'm determined to complete.  If you are able to show your support and make a donation to this worthy charity I'd be really grateful.

Thank you :)

April 2016 update:

When we signed up to do this hike, we were doing it to help raise funds and show our appreciation for the support of Macmillan during Darren's diagnosis and treatment.  2016 has brought us a new challenge and fight against cancer.  In February, following routine screening, I was told I had breast cancer.  4 weeks later I had an operation where the cancer cells were, thankfully, completely removed.  I have to have 4 weeks of follow up radiotherapy treatment and tamoxifen medication for a minimum of 5 years as preventative treatment against reoccurrence but I'm thankful for early screening!!  Again, our experience has been good and a lot of support, both face to face and in print has been provided and made available - Macmillan are key to this and we are even more determined to raise as much as we can to support them.

This hike will now be a tougher challenge as training will be interrupted by my treatment but we WILL do this - all 26 miles of it!!
