Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit DLA Piper Leeds & friends JustGiving page.

On Sunday 9 May 2010, a large team from DLA Piper's Leeds office and members of their families and friends will be participating in the following two events to be held in Millenium Square, Leeds to raise funds for their chosen charity for 2010, the Marie Curie Hospice in Bradford:

1.   The Leeds Half Marathon and Corporate Challenge Relay 2010

2.   Jane Tomlinson's Run for All Mini Fun Run & Junior Fun Run 2010

The Marie Curie Hospice in Bradford is a truly deserving charity which provides high quality nursing to those people living with terminal cancer and other illnesses.  This hospice is one of nine hospices in the UK and offers specialist support in a relaxed, friendly and comfortable environment to cancer patients and their families. Between them, the nine Marie Curie Hospices provide the greatest number of beds outside the NHS and no charge is ever made to patients or their families.  Voluntary contributions, together with statutory government funding, are therefore essential to continue providing these vital services.

For many members of the team participating in these two events, this will be a very poignant day since many will be running in memory of Bob Allerton, Kirstie's husband, who lost his battle with cancer in December 2009 and was cared for so expertly by the Marie Curie nurses in his final months at the Bradford hospice.  Various members of his family and his friends will be running with DLA Piper's team to help raise much needed funds for the Bradford hospice and their three year old son Lucas will be heading up "Team Lucas" in the childrens' fun runs.

The Leeds Half Marathon is recognised as one of the toughest half marathons in the UK, with the majority of the first half of the race being uphill. The race starts from Leeds City Centre, goes north through Meanwood to the ring road, west along the ring road to Horsforth and back along the Kirkstall Road into town. The team will be running a combined distance of more than 550 miles so there will be a few aching limbs and tired bodies afterwards!

The teams are the following:
