I completed the Berlin Marathon on Sunday 26th September 2010. The start of the race was less than ideal, heavy rain and cold conditions did make me wonder what on earth I was doing! But I persevered through the rain, occasional hamstring problems and "the wall" at around the 37k mark. The last 5k or so were hard, it was a case of putting my head down and willing myself and my legs to focus on the task in hand and summon every last bit of energy I had. It worked and I ended up with a time of 4 hours and 11 minutes after managing to sprint the last 250 metres!

I'm raising money for the Florence Nightingale Hospice in Buckinghamshire. The aim of the Hospice is to provide a free of charge, first class palliative care service for cancer and non cancer patients which is accessible to the people of Aylesbury and the surrounding areas. 

I want to raise funds for this particular charity, as it was at this hospice that my Uncle Jude spent his last few days in January before he sadly lost his fight against cancer. The staff at the hospice were caring and respectful to my family at this awful time,and the support they offered was invaluable. I want to do my bit to make sure they can continue to offer specialist nursing services at their day hospice and inpatient unit for free.
