Story
The Marathon des Sables (MDS) (Marathon of the Sands) is a six-day, 254 km (156 mile) ultramarathon, which is the equivalent to six regular marathons. The longest single stage (2009) is 91 km (55 miles) long.
This multiday race is held every year in the southern Moroccan desert.
It is considered the toughest footrace on earth.
I've always fancied a go at the Marathon des Sables but have had trouble justifying the commitment and time required to participate in such an event, but when the opportunity came along to run for Yorkshire Cancer Research I jumped at the chance.
Research into Cancer is close to my heart, as it has had a great impact on my family on both sides and I realize this is the case for many families effected by the loss or illness of loved ones.
Any donations can and will make a difference in the treatment and support of cancer victims.
