Story

I have been given the privilege to be running the London Landmarks half marathon 7th April 2024 on behalf of Remember Rufus. I have known Rufus' dad (Bill) for nearly 20years and have got to know Ceri in their time together. Having seen what they had gone through after the birth of Rufus it was an easy decision to dust of those running shoes and start losing pounds as the pain that I'll go through won't even be close to what they felt and the charity work they have done is outstanding. If the money i can raise can help just one hospital and family then it'll be a success. Here's a little more about Remember Rufus

Remember Rufus was set up in memory of their son who was sadly stillborn in October 2020. The charity raises funds to donate CuddleCots to NHS Trusts in England & Wales, giving families the gift of time to say the hardest goodbye.

So far the charity have donated 29 Cuddle Cots across England and Wales and have many more hospitals on their waiting list.

Remember Rufus has been set up in memory of our beautiful firstborn son, Rufus Harry Jude Key, who was stillborn on 11th October 2020 due to a silent placenta abruption at 39 weeks gestation. Following Rufus' birth, we were able to spend 6 unforgettable days with our son thanks to having access to a Cuddle Cot. During this time we were able to do many of the 'firsts' we had dreamt of with our boy including bath time, his first walk, meeting his grandparents and story. The memories we created are etched in our minds and have helped us immeasurably in our grief process. Our aim is to make sure every parent who faces the devastating reality of losing a child has access to this fantastic equipment which allows families to take time making memories with their precious baby(ies) in a private setting within the hospital, hospice or at even at home. Those extra hours and days can mean wider family members are also able to say goodbye. Without a cuddle cot, a bereaved family will typically only have 10-12 hours with their little one before they are taken away. Many studies have shown that increasing the amount of time parents have with their child(ren) will assist them with processing the mental and emotional difficulties of losing a child. No amount of time will ever be enough, but allowing parents the flexibility and control of managing their final goodbyes in the way that feels best for them is something that all families deserve.
