I am currently in East Africa doing some voluntary work for Tanzania Development Trust. TDT is a small charity dedicated to providing the most deprived people of Tanzania with sanitation, education (with an emphasis on girls), female empowerment and economic enterprise.

Fully committed to sustainability and carefully considered in its grants, TDT operates without any overheads. Everyone involved volunteers their time and money to make sure that every penny donated is paid forward to Tanzanian communities.

As you might expect, a little goes a very long way in the poor rural communities of Tanzania. In fact, most of TDT's grants are below £5000 because sums like these can provide clean freshwater in remote communities or build girls' hostels in secondary schools.
